“I advocate that we celebrate from the 19th of June to the 4th of July, that would be celebrating freedom.”

Why Juneteenth to Independence Day?

What does it mean for people in the United States and internationally to come together to explore and celebrate freedom and independence? In the United States, emancipation from slavery and national independence are marked by two federal holidays, Juneteenth and Independence Day.

Events exploring and celebrating emancipation begin with Juneteenth celebrations around the country and continue through the US Independence Day. The improvscience Freedom Festival events run June 19th to July 4th.

Through this festival, people of all walks of life are inviting one another to experience, celebrate and advance freedom and independence for all.

Global Participation

Liberty and Justice for all

Participants around the globe are invited to offer an event, a conversation, a gift or a discount on their product or services, in acknowledgment and celebration of America having succeeded, in a small or great way, in creating freedom and independence. Consciously and intentionally creating culture—together—is essential now, as liberty and justice for all is in question. Note: Although centered in the USA, freedom and independence are global issues, so participants from around the world are invited.

Events will be offered “from California to the New York Island”—in-person and online. There will be opportunities to play, to enjoy music, games or conversations offered by everyday people who feel inspired to share their dreams of freedom and independence with others. This ongoing grassroots festival includes explorations of justice and liberty and the work of Black activists and ordinary people across history. Sign up to donate, host, or be kept informed as the program develops.

"What I loved about this event is the combination of a very important historical event and taking (as a presenter) a very playful, creative approach to it—that’s key in transformation."

"I attended at least ten events: from a reading of poetry about freedom, to collage-making, to a fascinating talk on architecture to musical performances, to several illuminating conversations, and so much more. Wow! Thank you!"
